Bio

My name is Meridy LIPPOLDT. I work as a free-lance translator translating materials from French, Spanish, and Italian into English. I studied translation at the University of Geneva and received a diploma following my studies there in 1981. Prior to that I worked at the Geneva-based Office of the United Nations as a multilingual guide. Following my translation studies I worked as an administrative assistant for a non- profit based in Geneva called World University Service. It was an agency that promoted educational rights for refugee students and community development projects in developing countries. It was at the forefront of efforts to end apartheid in South Africa. In 1985 I joined the US Foreign Service as a consular officer. I served 3 tours in Mexico City, Washington DC, and New York City where I worked for 2 years as a political officer at the US Mission for the United Nations. Since then I have gained experience working as a free-lance translator and as an admin for the Department of Vocational Services at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. At Maine Medical Center I worked in the area of vocational rehabilitation for people with disabilities and especially for people with psychiatric disabilities. In my spare time, I enjoy being in the out-of-doors, reading all types of fiction, cooking, and learning how to play classical guitar.
