As I answered 2 years ago to the same question: At my age and after working in translation full-time for over 30 years (plus a few years part-time) I am seldom asked for my CV as I have established a good client base and new customers are usually referred by existing clients: word of mouth has been my best advertising!

What purpose? Jul 27, 2017

I'm not sure if it would serve any purpose. The information can still be copied. I generally try to minimise information unless I trust the point of access.

I can see its use as a security feature, but I only make my CV available to clients who ask directly for it or when bidding on a job, so it is unlikely that my CV will be stolen. As an ornament/brand feature rather than a security feature, I can't see the use. My CV already clearly states who I am!

There might be some tear drops on the invoice if I feel that I shouldn't have lowered the price a fraction. Otherwise, no.

Oh, and I don't use a CV. I use a CB or Capabilities Brochure. After all, I'm not a newbie fresh out of college running around for my first job.

Added last line as an afterthought.

My business brochure used to have a "watermark", my name, fond 9 or 8, across the center of the pages. But more recently I've just used passwords to protect the included information.

@ Julian, does your computer screen really "transmit" tears onto an electronic page? If you'd get that patent, you'll be rich in a heartbeat.

@Thayenga
This watermark is invisible except to trained watery eyes.

As I think I've said before, who cares?

If someone pretends they're me, so what?

Surely it's only an issue if we compete for the same work. Which we won't.

But if we did, I'd still get the work because I'm me, as opposed to someone who has to pretend to be someone else to compete for work.

I used to Jul 27, 2017

I once used a watermark in my resume, but someone told me that was not very professional. I did remove it

A watermark? No Jul 27, 2017

A logo? Yes.

My CV, business cards, blog and website all carry my logo. Even some of my translations carry my logo.

A watermark comes in two flavors (I know you guys know this):

a) The physical, basrelief watermark
b) The electronic watermark

RE: Martha, whoever told you having a watermark on a document is unprofessional does not know what he/she is talking about.

I agree! Jul 27, 2017

I also have my logo. I have a watermark on my youtube videos though (as a digital nomad)

And I agree with Martha regarding logos, pictures, etc. The CV is strictly personal and business items are not part of it. If you want to use a logo in a prospect of your business, ok, but not in a CV.

Regarding security purposes, it may be useful, but pretty inefficient too.

I have a profile, not a CV. I don't see the point of watermarking such a short text that can be copied simply by typing fast for fewer than ten minutes.

My profile not being very typical, I'm not sure that it's worth copying anyway. It'd be hard for an impersonator to keep up my standards of quirkiness
