Arabic to English Other Geography Tunisia
This is from a piece about the area of Tozeur in inland Tunisia.
I am wondering if this is a place-name, or whether it means "surrounding region", or maybe a geographical term. The only definition I have of "jareed" is "palm branches stripped of their leaves"

Thanks, I found the answer :-) el-Djerid or al-Jarid (Arabic , meaning palm leaf) is the medieval name for the semidesert region comprising southern Tunisia and adjacent parts of Algeria and Libya, including several chotts or salt lakes

El-Djerid or Al-Jarid; in the link below you will find that in other countries they have similar product, but the names are kept to refer to the native product created or made.
