German term

Das ist wirklich ein fettes Teil!

German to English Other Slang
Speaker is referring to a BIG boom box he sees for the first time.

How would you say "fettes Teil" (in particular "Teil") in American English? It shouldn't be too slangy, so I suppose "No that's a big bugger!" would be too much (is it AE at all?)

By the way: I only have today for this...

Discussion

Ken Cox Dec 2, 2008:
So this is an adult speaking to a child, and moreover a child that he or she does not know personally? That puts a distinct shading on the situation.
Jutta Scherer (asker) Dec 2, 2008:
An interviewer sees the device in a kid's room and wonders whether the kid can lift it up at all - so there's actually no undertone of awe, only curiosity.
Ken Cox Dec 2, 2008:
There are many different ways to say this, depending on the speaker (pardon the pun), the situation, the social milieu, etc. Without knowing this, it's hard to make a suggestion that would be in character and in setting.

Correction: ...humongous box!
(Don't know where my mind was--boomers are something else... ;-))

In light of clarification on tone involved, you could alter that to:
That really/sure is one humongous box.

"awesome" in the classical sense could also be used ironically here, to refer to size:
That sure is an awesome box.

Thanks, Inge.
neutral Nicole Schnell : I don't like "boomer" very much. Never heard it in the US, except in "baby boomers". Other than that it's a male kangaroo. // Box is good! :-)

How about "box"? Boomer was a mistake--see my correction added at 1 hr.
