neutral transphy : Check out the difference between the two terms. 'Cash coverage' is a percentage, a ratio, of Cash in the Bank over assets or liabilities. 'Cover' is a cash equivalent deposit against a Loan, usually a Letter of Credit.

In a documentary credit transaction (such as a letter of credit) amount deposited by the borrower or debtor (such as the applicant for a letter of credit) with the lender or creditor (such as the letter of credit issuing bank).

A 'Purchaser' issues a 'letter of Credit', for goods to be purchased from abroad. The purchaser, either has not got an account with the particular Bank, which acts as an Agent for him/her. So, an amount in Cash, the equivalent of the amount of the 'Letter of Credit ' is deposited with that Bank...to cover the amount of the 'Letter of Credit'
It acts as a 'guaranteed letter of Credit', similar to an 'Irrevocable letter of Credit.
