Discussion

rokotas Jul 10, 2017:
@ Peter Good morning, Peter. Neither my comment was meant as a criticism to your translation. I was just pointing to the fact that it is funny to imagine a rotisserie chef on a roof chasing cats!
Peter Close Jul 10, 2017:
To Rokotas: Good morning, My discussion entry of yesterday morning was not meant as a criticism of Nick's use of the words, "the kebab man", in any way. I merely mentioned that a 'more official translation' of ‘σουβλατζής’ is ‘rotisserie chef’, if anyone were to be interested, because ‘σουβλατζής’ is a particularly unusual word to have to translate into English, and the words, "the kebab man", would probably not be suitable in many cases.
rokotas Jul 9, 2017:
Besides, a rotisserie chef is not very likely to fetch cats on the roofs for his meals
Nick Lingris Jul 9, 2017:
But then a rotisserie chef cannot be a plain σουβλατζής. He'd have to be αρχιοβελιστής, at least. :)
Good morning!
Peter Close Jul 9, 2017:
In case anyone is interested, a more ‘official translation’ of ‘σουβλατζής’ is ‘rotisserie chef’. See:

As a rotisserie chef, you get to attach food to a metal rod or spit and watch with fascination as it rotates over the heat of the grill. (What could be more fun than that ...

agree Rachel Fell : Oh dear, how horrible, I wish I hadn't looked at this question now!//No, but I'll be more circumspect about the origin of the meat ;-)
