Context:
El significado de estos morfemas es tan básico, que permite la cuantificación tanto de conceptos concretos como de los abstractos, por lo que, a través de procesos metafóricos, tales conceptos adquieren el estatus de entidades o sustancias cuantificables.
My try: ...through metaphorical processes these concepts acquire the status of quantifiable entities or matter.
How could I translate "sustancias" in this context?
"Substances" sounds strange; "things" is a near synonym of entities so I'd need something different, and I'm not really sure about "matter".
Thanks for any suggestions.

entities or substances
Maybe "essences" is another possibility, but I'd go with substances, which is a standard philosophical term with a solid Aristotelian pedigree:

You'll find lots of references to "entities and/or substances" in philosophical discourse if you look.
And more specifically, it's been used in this context too:
"Ontological metaphors [...] allow humans to view activities, emotions, ideas, etc. as quantifiable entities or substances."
