Since the surprises were in such demand last year, each Surprise will be running throughout the whole 10 weeks of DSS this time around. The city will be a melting pot of people, cultures, colours, themes, and prizes galore. 72 days filled with non-stop entertainment, events, competitions, Modhesh events, raffles, fun, and most importantly miles of smiles and laughter.

SURPRISES, SURPRISES, THE 10 SURPRISES
(June 21 to August 31)
The Ten Surprises are one of the biggest attractions and the highlight of this year's DSS. Unlike the previous editions, where each Surprise lasted a week, DSS 2007 will have all the Surprises begin from June 21 running up till August 31 – a full 72 days of non-stop excitement and entertainment for the whole family. There's a new inclusion this year for those who love to laugh; Comedy Surprises will showcase the best of humor and laughter for a continuous ten weeks. The other exciting Surprises are: Art, Food, Flower, Heritage, Global, Nature, Cartoon, Adventure, and Knowledge, in addition to Comedy Surprises. Ten Surprises for ten times the fun.
Food Surprises
Featuring cuisines from around the globe, international chefs from renowned hotels come together to present a world of culinary delights. Cooking competitions, food carvings, and live entertainment will keep food enthusiasts busy.
Heritage Surprises
Heritage Surprises reveal the origin and traditions of countries from around the world by showcasing folkloric shows, traditional fashion shows and traditional sports. Wedding ceremonies of different countries add colour and excitement to the Surprises. The activities together provide the platform for cultural exchange between people of diverse race and nationalities.
Art Surprises
Art Surprises aims to bring together art enthusiasts of all ages where all art forms, including music, writing, and painting are celebrated. The event is an arena for all art lovers to exhibit and appreciate art in its different mediums.
Flower Surprises
Featuring different activities like flower arrangements and flower drawing competitions, the colorful Surprises include live workshops on flower vase decoration, painting, and handicrafts. Apart from a beautiful display of flowers in the numerous shopping malls, themed shows and parades based on the concept of flowers will be accompanied by audio-visual effects and music.
Knowledge Surprises
Based on the theme of edutainment, Knowledge Surprises provides visitors of all ages an opportunity to seek knowledge through practical activities. Global Surprises
The Surprises are a way of expressing Dubai's appreciation of other cultures by hosting folklore and cultural shows of regions from around the world. Culture has always been a unifying element amongst people and Global Surprises will host songs, dances, and other art forms to provide residents and visitors a glimpse into traditions and customs from all over the globe.
Cartoon Surprises
Cartoon Surprises are a combination of entertaining shows, exhibitions, workshops, and plays for children who simply love to come face to face with their favourite cartoon characters. The Surprises provide the perfect avenue for children to further their creativity and imagination.
Nature Surprises
Nature Surprises are all about inculcating a sense of responsibility in ensuring a pollution-free environment, in addition to enlightening visitors on the forces of nature. This Surprise is significant because it enlightens children and adults on conservation, recycling, carbon emissions, global warming, and other environment related issues that are of relevance today.
Adventure Surprises
For all those who love adventure, this Surprise is worth looking forward to. Adventure Surprises are targeted at children, teenagers, and adults, who love the thrill of outdoor activities and enjoy indoor events that test the reflexes and mental faculties.
Comedy Surprises
As the name suggests, Comedy Surprises aims to showcase laughter and fun in their best forms. Dubai Summer Surprises is all about fun, excitement, entertainment, and these themes will be the focus during the Surprise. MODHESH FUN CITY (MFC)
Modhesh Fun City, the star attraction of Dubai Summer Surprises, is today one of the largest indoor theme parks of its kind in the region. Set up in the New Millennium Modhesh Fun City is a popular summer venue to hit Dubai for residents as well as visitors. While children are the biggest beneficiaries of the Modhesh Fun City, adults too can have their share of fun at the sprawling facility.
In this 10th year of DSS, the Fun City is back at the Airport Expo running between June 21 and August 31 from 10am to 10pm on weekdays, 10am to 11pm on Thursdays and Saturdays, and 3pm to 11pm on Fridays. With different zones catering to a wide spectrum of interests, the Fun City features a host of unique attractions for children of all ages and their parents. Entry tickets are AED 20 for kids inclusive of free rides and AED 10 for adults.
With its various fun and entertainment zones, the MFC not only broadens imaginations of children by offering dedicated areas for hobbies and edutainment programmes, it also offers fresh and new bundles of activities to educate and entertain the little ones and provide ample entertainment to the teens and adults as well. Rest areas have been created at regular intervals where parents can sit down comfortably and watch their children play.
MODHESH FRIENDS CLUB
Set up in 2004, Modhesh Friends Club is an exclusive Club for children, which runs at the Modhesh Fun City during the Dubai Summer Surprises. Offering children an opportunity to learn and play during the summer holidays this Club is open to members in the age group of 3 to 12 years. The Club, running this year from June 24 to August 24 at Airport Expo, promotes fun and edutainment whilst also emphasizing on friendship and human values. All the activities are designed to boost children’s confidence and develop their character.
Games and fun apart the two-month-long Club also offers work experience, field trips, projects, and parties while imparting behavioral skills development and talent enhancing workshops such as music, painting, art and craft, theater and sports, etc.
MODHESH MERCHANDISE
Modhesh, the endearing DSS mascot has indeed grown up to be a strong brand ambassador of the event in the seven years of its existence. He endorses gifts, souvenirs and a whole range of products such as stationery items, bed linen, garments and accessories as well as toys, games, Modhesh puppets and party items. Affordable for everyone, these items can be purchased for keepsakes from Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Festival City, Mercato, Deira City Centre and BurJuman and also from the Modhesh Fun City at the Airport Expo from Dubai.
With such a diverse range of products, Modhesh has today become a brand in itself. He also endorses a wide range of fruit juices that are available in tetra packs with the trademark Modhesh image smiling gleefully in his sunny yellow suit.
IN-MALL EVENTS
The Collectors
To be organized at Mall of the Emirates from July 6th-14th, The Collectors Exhibition is a platform for those interested in memorable collectibles from different parts of the world. The exhibition showcases a rare collection of souvenirs and sheds extensive light on the cultural and entertainment aspects associated with this wide-spread hobby.
Min Bladi Al Emarat
This activity will be held from July 19th to 26th at Ibn Batuta Mall. Launched in DSS 2004, this folkloric festivity is designed to generate public awareness of the UAE heritage, customs and traditions. It features a wide scope of daily competitions tailored to urge the participants to revive the UAE’s rich heritage.
World of Stories
This activity will be organized from June 29th till July 5th at Al Ghurair City. Launched last year, World of Stories features a group of well-known cartoon characters familiar to all ages. Quoted in English and Arabic, the animated characters are derived from famous stories and novels that appeal to children and adults alike, such as Cinderella and, Jack and the Beanstalk.
Arts Oasis
To be held from July 28th through August 5th at Burjuman, 'Arts Oasis' is aimed at turning a select group of Dubai shopping malls to genuine art exhibitions. Launched during DSS 2006, the event is not confined to art exhibitions merely, but also occasions, cultural and entertainment festivities.
Kids Fashion Week
Kids Fashion is slated for August 9th-15th at Dubai Festival City. Launched during DSS 2003, the event celebrates its fifth year and is aimed at showcasing the latest trends in children's summer and spring couture by leading fashion brands and designers. The event includes spectacular fashion shows as well as specialized workshops on costumes and accessories.
Photography Exhibition
The Photography Exhibition will run from August 12th-19th at Deira City Centre. It brings together a plethora of international and local photographers to showcase their latest masterpieces. In celebration of the World Photography Day, a competition will run on the sidelines of the event for the Exhibition's best works.
Kids Olympic Games
To be held from August 16th-22nd at Reef Mall and one of the many events being hosted under the Dubai Summer Surprise 2007 schedule of innovative activities, Kids Olympic Games is every child's chance to hog the limelight. As the DSS Office hosts the Games for the fifth year in a row, this is yet another opportunity for children to showcase skills that will make their parents proud.
Sheila & Abaya Fashion
Launched last year, this activity, to be held from August 23rd-27th, at Burjuman, helps enhance interest in this traditional folkloric clothing. Becoming one of the latest fashion trends the world over, this event aims at attracting Gulf visitors by presenting an eclectic mix of the traditional attire with a modern twist.

THE DREAM DSS GRAND RAFFLE
Raffles has become a major attraction in DSS, to the extent that many families postpone their shopping plans to time it with the event and get coupons that allow them to win the grand cash prizes. many shoppers view the raffles as a chance to change their lives. The raffles has become so popular that people look forward for it and make plans to shop more and get more coupons to increase their wining chances.
Dubai Summer Surprises 2007 will witness a city-wide shopping promotion during its 10th anniversary celebrations where shoppers will be able to win cash prizes worth AED 500 thousand every week throughout the 10 week extravaganza. A total purse of AED 5 million dirhams is up for grabs during the promotion. The Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG), was set up in 1997 under the patronage of Dubai’s Economic Department, as an industry body to represent Dubai’s malls and organize initiatives that would benefit the whole retail sector. Each of the participating spas specializes in a particular treatment apart from providing general stress relief therapies. Spa enthusiasts can choose from hot stone, Thai, and Swedish massage, to aromatherapy and body detoxification sessions. As part of the agreement, the participating spas will provide specially designed treatment packages at discounted rates only during DSS. Ranging from half-hour sessions to treatments that need more than two visits, the spa treatments are designed to cater to different health requirements.
DSS AND CINESTAR A WIN-WIN PARTERNERSHIP
CineStar Cinemas will be running a Treasure Hunt competition from June 21 for a period of 8 weeks on their website www.cinestarcinemas.com. Only registered members of www.cinestarcinemas.com are entitled to participate in this competition. Registration is easy through an online template and is absolutely free. The Treasure Hunt will involve online quizzes and interactive games. A virtual key can only be obtained if the quiz question is answered correctly and the game is completed well before the time allocated.
