Italian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Registration document
This comes up as one of the headings in a table of bank loans as part of a Prospectus. Other headings include the credit institution, the rate (variable/fixed), and the residual debt. To me it is the principal...but I am not an expert in finance.
Any help appreciated.

Contract notional value, also known as contract value, is the financial expression of the contract unit and the current futures contract price.

Assume a gold futures contract is trading at price of $1,000. The notional value of the contract is calculated by multiplying the contract unit by the futures price.

notional contract principal

There is no indication to me in the context of a table of bank loans, despite the first example sentence and other comments, that this is a swap, futures contract or derivative scenario.

Other than a contract substrate or underyling contract, I agree with the asker's modest 'principal' suggestion.
Example sentence:

The term notional principal amount refers to the predetermined dollar amount or principal on which exchanged interest payments are based.
