People have noticed my slogan and asked me about it, and they must like my answer because they then give me work. It's what sets me apart after all, in one of the most common language pairs. | | |
If you mean by branding the marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products, no one has ever said when requiring my services that they chose me because they liked the name Bureau Portugais de Traduction or BPT. The fact that it’s a French name could attract more French clients, but I work much more in English than in French. When 5 years ago I moved back to Portugal I thought of changing the name to something more Portuguese but BPT had been around for a good while and had a solid client base, so I didn’t. I'd reply "other" on this one: when I stopped working with agencies about 20 years ago, I gave the names of colleagues to those that I left and to others that contacted me. Later, when talking with these agencies, some told me that they had not contacted "branded" translators because they looked like they might be acting as agencies themselves and thus in direct competition with them. I had thought long and hard about giving myself a name, logo, etc., and I also wanted my direct clients never to...
