Bright Moon, since when have you been up there
Holding a cup of wine, now I enquire to the heavens
In the celestial palace, what night is tonight in your calendar
I would ride on the wind and return there
Nevertheless, I’m afraid of its Empyrial appearance
The cold of the culmination is unbearable to my corporal skin
So I merely dance with shadows of worldly illusions till it comes to an end
What a human life it is
Through the red gate, through the low window
You illuminate this sleepless body of mine with pale light
No answer to my resentment, in my time of melancholy, you’re round and bright as ever
As you have wax and wane, man has meeting and parting
Be that the Absolute from which all must suffer
The least I shall wish:
May his life be long and prosperous
May our two hearts connect with each other over ten thousand miles

月よ 貴方はいつからそこにいるのか
酒を手に取り　いま宇宙に問う
天上の宮殿では　どんな暦を使い　今はなんという時代なのか
もし許されるなら 私はこの身を風にゆだね　そこへ飛んで帰るだろう
けれども私は 天空にそびえる宮殿の佇まいが怖い
天上のその寒さに私の身は耐えられまい
ならば　この身の果てるまでこの幻影たちと舞い戯れよう
それが人の命ならば
赤い門をくぐり　低い窓を抜け　眠れぬ私を照らし出す月よ
恨めどもそこに応えはなく　別れのこの時も円満に光を称える月よ
貴方に満ちと欠けとがあるように　人にも出会いと別れとがある
それが変えられないこの世のさだめならば
