: Je pense qu'il s'agit d'un faux sens, voire d'un contre-sens, par rapport à l'origine biblique de la locution et de son emploi moderne en anglais, les syndicalites ne sont justement pas la voix de son maître pour le gouvernement ils l'ont privé de soutien

La crédibilité ne parle pas au coeur (hearts), mais la confiance tient à la fois du coeur et de la tête.
Quand il s'agit de membres (d'un syndicat, d'un parti, etc.), tout est bien plus viscéral qu'une simple question de crédibilité. À mon sens, c'est plus de la confiance dont il s'agit.

J'ai commis une erreur en notant tout à l'heure "syndicalistes", il fallait comprendre "syndiqués" bien sûr
Si l'ex-Président français Valéry Giscard d'Estaing avait été anglo-saxon lors du dernier débat télévisé avant les élections présidentielles de 1974, il aurait peut-être rétorqué à Mitterand :
"Sorry, Mr. Mitterand, but you are not the only one being able to win French hearts and minds".
Il avait dit en français la phrase célèbre : "Vous n'avez pas le monopole du coeur, M. Mitterand"
To say that the government has lost the hearts and minds of union members implies that there is a war underway for their support, and the government has lost.
