Penso più o meno siano la stessa cosa però direi questo, per un fatto. Da wikipedia "moscardino" (Eledone Moschata) sembrano tradursi "musky octopus".

anche se l'uso di entrambi è diffuso, mi sa che hai ragione, ci avevo pure pensato, ma chissà perché ho desistito. Termine che viene erroneamente usato per indicare il polpo marino commestibile. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polipo
