This is from a handbook for an art education program based in Chile:

menagerie
According to the Academy dictionary, "animalario" literally means a building where experimental laboratory animals are kept.

But here it's being used more loosely, I think, to refer to the children who are dressing up in animal masks, and what we want is simply a word referring to a collection of animals. I think "menagerie" would fit well; it's also used more generally to mean a varied collection.
"menagerie
1 a : a place where animals are kept and trained especially for exhibition
b : a collection of wild or foreign animals kept especially for exhibition"

A menagerie [...] is a collection of live animals that people visit, study, or keep as pets."

I think this is what the author means here
(a classroom where kids are as wild as "animals"; a zoo if you will)
You may want to use "classmates" instead.
