I'm searching for a phrase or expression in English that reflects the Italian concept of perdere lo "stimolo" not as a physical attribute but rather as an ability to inspire others simply by its very existence, its effects on those who walk its streets.
At this point, I've run out of ideas.

In line with your own interpretation, I'd probably go with something like this.

Perhaps also ...losing its charm/attraction ...although that's a slightly different concept.
