The fire, partly contained by an old ruin, has by some miracle not spread. Attempts to run a hose across the scrubby slope from Ana’s house have failed; it’s too short. A guy in maybe his 30s, who I’ve not seen before, but who is presumably related to Ana, is using it to fill a second bucket though. And then serious help arrives. A chunky guy who I think I recognise from the next hamlet has SPANNERED OPEN A JUNCTION in one of the big pipes leading out from the village deposito, the water tank, which is close by. Three of us manhandle this big hose and soon enough the fire is extinguished. My heart is still hammering.
