Inginerie (general)
Ground roll are surface waves recorded as "pseudo-Raleigh" waves on the geophone vertical component. They are the result of interfering P and SV waves that travel along/near the ground surface. As they arrive directly from the source, they are linear at near receiver line in 2D/3D but appear hyperbolic on broadside receiver lines. They are characterized by their low velocity, low frequency, and high amplitude. Ground roll is dispersive, which means that there are, for each frequency, different apparent velocities.
