Hi,
We use the Persian word تازه here in Turkey too (taze) to mean "fresh".
But am I right in thinking that it has a completely different meaning like "however", or am I wrong?
Best wishes,
Simon

تازه can be an adjective in Persian, e.g. میوه تازه = fresh fruit. In this case we may wish to use the collocation تر و تازه as well which better fits when we use a colloquial style.
تازه can also be a conjunction. In this case unlike the comments left by few proz.com friends it cannot imply terms like "however", "yet", etc. since these are all conjunctions emphasizing the presence of some sort of contrast. But, تازه in the latter sense of the term reinforces what already said and hence it acts like terms including "besides", "moreover", "in addition", and the like. The examples below may clarify the issue better.
EX1: I did not buy the car; because, it was very expensive. Moreover/Besides/Further/Furthermore/ its color was not the one I liked.
Translation (colloquial style): من اون ماشین رو نخریدم چون خیلی گران بود. تازه رنگش هم همونی نبود که می خواستم
In the above Persian sentence the word تازه could be simply equated to ضمنا, در ضمن, ضمن اینکه, علاوه بر این and other reinforcing conjunctions.
Remember that both clauses are negative in example 1. Both clauses could also be positive. The point is that the two clauses must be in agreement.
Ex2: من تمام آن لباس ها رو خریدم چون خیلی ارزان بود، تازه رنگشان هم همونی بود که می خواستم

one note for my dear colleagues as well, never joint the plural marker ها and also the prefix می to their adjacent components, hence:
لباس ها is preferred over لباسها
می خواستم is preferred over میخواستم
