I work full-time as Station Manager of Raidió na Life, Dublin's Irish Language community radio station. I oversee and manage the day to day running of the station in all its facets. A major component of my work in this job is translation and proofreading of all written material which is displayed on the station's website in addition to all internal official/legal documentation, all press releases, funding applications, staff handbooks, volunteer contracts etc. etc. I also do regular voice-over work.
I am a graduate of the National University Of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM) with a double honours degree in languages (Spanish and Irish{Gaelic}) - First Class Honours in both subjects. Translation modules were a key component of my study of both of these languages, and I also attended various courses at the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain for the 2002-2003 academic year (Erasmus). I am a native speaker of both English and Irish, and am also fluent in Spanish. I also speak a little Portuguese and Catalan. In addition to the year I spent living and studying in Spain (2002-2003) I have also spent 6 months travelling in Latin America, from Mexico to Chile (2014-2015).
My professional translation experience includes work on the following:
* daily English to Irish translation of website updates for www.raidionalife.ie and daily translation of internal reports & materials for use within Raidió na Life.
* Proofreading of the above items.
* 8000 words legal/medical text (English to Irish) for E-Teams International, Ireland.
* translation of a primary school curriculum textbook (English to Irish) for Folens Publishers.
* a localisation project (from American English to Irish English) for Apple computers.
* a piece of legal text (from English to Irish) for E-Training International, Ireland.
* poetry at the request of Professor John Kinsella, the head of the Dept. of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin America in NUIM.
* a series of promotional letters to magazines, music venues etc. for the Irish group Bevel Jenny (www.beveljenny.com), (from English to Spanish). |
