Hi Steven,
My first guess is that your hotspot provider can also have a firewall that limits the port memoQ is using. Just a guess, though.

I know it's been a while, but did you ever find out what the problem was? I've got exactly the same problem at the moment and am not really sure what's causing it. Except I'm trying to log on from home as usual and am using version 4.4.22 at the client's request.

I am having a similar problem all of a sudden (yesterday it was working just fine!) and I can't make sure that the issue is not on the client's end because of the time zone difference.
I keep getting error messages like "the server is not accessible" and "unable to connect to the server" when trying to check out a new project or opening a current one.

I am having exactly the same problem right now.
Yesterday, when I started working on the project from my home, everything worked fine. Right now I am sitting at a location with a wireless connection that is usually excellent.
When starting memoQ, it says:

until the connection is restored."

not available.
Would you like memoQ to suppress connection windows while the
current project is open?"
If I select No, the same question is repeated indefinitely.
If I select Yes, I end up being able to see the segment lists, but I cannot type my translation for any segment.
Is there any way I can get memoQ to work in situations like this? Perhaps some way to disconnect my client application from the client's server so I can still work at least?

I have exactly the same issue that Thomas was dealing with - have a huge project for a long-term cooperation due Monday and I can't figure out what's going on. Piotr, I have no idea how to save the file locally. I only have a "save all" option, and can't find another one. Besides, that would leave me without the TM, and 1/5 of this project has 100% translated segment on the TM, so it's necessary.
Help! What does this cannot-connect-to-server problem mean, and Thomas, if you made this work, how did you do it?

Version of memoQ server? | Sep 29, 2012 |

Were you explicitly told the project is on a memoQ 5 server? AFAIK, you cannot access a memoQ 6 server with a memoQ 5 client (and vice-versa).
Are you still within the 45 days trail period, or has your copy of memoQ switched to memoQ4free mode? AFAIK, you cannot access a memoQ server in memoQ4free mode. | | | Servers sync up | Sep 29, 2012 |
Dominique:
Yes, I was specifically told to download the trial version of MemoQ 5.0; if I downloaded 6.0, the servers wouldn't sync up. It was working for about a week or so, too.
And, yes, as far as I know I'm still within the 45 days. I downloaded it 2-3 weeks ago. | | | Force majeure | Sep 29, 2012 |

OK, then I guess it's a case of force majeure: how can you be expected to translate in an online project over the weekend if the server doesn't respond, and neither do PM's at your client?
Okay - I've sort of fixed the problem. I had to leave home due to a family bereavement and was working in an area with a fairly heavily restrictive firewall. I've left family and returned home for a few days to finish the project, and if the TM's not working consistently at least MemoQ's working well enough so that I can actually type in the target fields. Thanks for your help!

It happened to me | Nov 5, 2014 |
Just for the benefit anyone finding this discussion on the web because they're having the same problem (as I did), this happened to me and I called my client, who told me they were having problems their end and their server was down. I suspect that this is why the issue seemed to be resolved at times by coming back to the project at a later stage.
In my case, as soon as my client's server was up again, this error message disappeared and I was able to translate the file with no issues. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Problems connecting to client's serve to access TM TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
