I was looking to get some feedback on MemoQ 6.0 from a translators perspective.
The lengthy list of changes seems very enticing for an upgrade, but MemoQ tends to be buggy at times. We're hesitating on the upgrade in case of glitches (that may be fixed later on), but we're hoping this newly re-factored version lives up to the expectations.
I'd like to hear your pros and cons, likes and dislikes, glitches, error messages or anything helpful regarding this version.

Dear Shirley,
I have been using version 6.0 for a couple of days and until now I found the following bugs:
1, You cannot import Transit packages. This function simply does not work.
2, You cannot set Hunspell dictionary for spelling.
3, The QA result list cannot be sorted (e.g. by error type)

What I miss from memoQ 6.0:
You still have to have a memoQ exception list for spelling, so still no direct and seamless connection to the MS Office spelling module. (a real pain in the neck, compared to Trados Studio MS Office-based on-the-fly spelling module).
What I do not understand in memoQ 6.0:
Backward compatibility issue between version 5 and 6. I have got clients with memoQ 5 server and on-line projects. But since memoQ 6 Translator Pro can only connect to memoQ 6 servers, you need to wait until your clients switch to memoQ 6, too. So I have got memoQ 5.0 installed for memoQ 5 server projects and memoQ 6.0 for standalone projects. Quite confusing. If you set a memoQ 6.0. only feature in memoQ 6.0 (e.g. Horizontal View pinned in the middle) and then start memoQ 5.0 for a while, the memoQ 6.0 function will be turned off when you open 6.0 next time.
Regards,
Gyula

I can live without no .1, but 2 and 3 would be significant drawbacks for me.

Were these features available in MemoQ 5? I ask because we work in Project Manager mode, so it's very different.

I believe this has been an ongoing issue with several versions. As of now we have our freelancers working in 5, because we are still considering the upgrade. So I see how this could be an issue for translators. | |

I think the superb Transit package handling was one of the hugest advantages of memoQ. But I am pretty sure that the guys at Kilgray will correct these minor problems in no time.
For me, backward compatibility issue is much more annoying. I do not really see the point of this step of Kilgray.
Cheers,

No revolution against 5.0 in any case. The same slow project loading and weird concordance as it was in 5.0. And lots of annoying bugs. No reason to use 6.0 instead of 5.0 at the moment. I would wait until Kilgray updates it to at least build 6.0.20 (or even 6.0.30) in hope that the software becomes more handy. | | | TheAlphaSens (X) Erresuma Batua Local time: 07:47 Ingelesatik Frantsesara Can't quite agree | Jul 14, 2012 |
Isn't it a bit excessive to say "lots of annoying bugs"?
Apart from the QA sorting and the compatibility issues between 5 and 6 (quite predictable), I haven't noticed anything particular...
#Hunspell @Gyula
I've installed MemoQ 6.0.10 on 12+ machines in 5 languages, and the Hunspell checker does work properly on all of them.

#Concordance @Valery
Have you noticed that MemoQ 6.0 has a new option in the Concordance window? (radio button "source + target").
That new layout is much clearer than the old one - and we are now able to edit/delete TM entries directly from the concordance window.
#The feature I still miss badly:
- AutoSuggest
#The things I like:
- Faster file import
- New concordance
- Predictive typing for TB entries
- .ttx preview
- Content connector for Translator Pro versions

OK. Autosuggestion. Though for practical use these two features (concordance and autosuggestion) mean virtually the same. I mean that adding or removing just one or two spaces or punctuation marks not to mention digits easily "throws" the segment from 100% to some 65% match or below. Important: Not to some 80-90% but to much lower level of match. Vice verca, you may get an autosuggestion on top of the search window (or whatever is called the panel to the right from the main translation window with proposed TM segments) indicating 100% or 99% match but pretty different from the source and from some more accurate suggestions. I.e., the key feature works inaccurately. This especially and specifically concerns digits, numbers and punctuation.
Such behaviour is intrinsic for MemoQ and is not typical (or, much less typical) for DVX or SDL. And MQ6 still inherits such behaviour from MQ5. I have used all of them extensively and the above written is a practice-based observation. Also, you may read what other people write in the MQ Yahoo group conserning the issue.
I will edit this my message and provide some examples of such MemoQ behaviour immediately after I am back to my main computer with recent translations.
Indeed, I can put a Mersedes Benz star or BMW emblem on my old Opel Vectra (this is for example only, I drive a different vehicle in reality).... Or even a horn from Kenworth truck together with its nickel plated radiator. ... You know the rest.
And, let's be honest. The ability to edit/delete segments straight from concordance window is nice. But it's does not eliminate what is really bad in MemoQ, i.e. poor processing of TM's and correct suggestion.
I did not mention yet that MQ opens projects much slower than Studio 2009 or DVX. Though I need to admit that MQ6 does it slightly faster than MQ5 (but just - slightly). This will be another story to tell.

Autosuggestion? I assume you are referring to Automatic Lookups... let's not confuse people with wrong terminology.
- Below 65% for one additional space or a different punctuation mark?
- 100% matches that are actually different from the source?
Wow, I'd be curious to see this... sounds to me like pretty wild assertions (or perhaps you are working with very weird texts, or you don't know how to use MQ).

It never happened to me anyway, and I'm working on files literally filled with variables/digits all day long.
I'm also on the MQ yahoo group and I don't recall reading something along those lines, sorry.
MQ would be long dead if it wasn't even able to process results properly, let's be realistic here... ▲ Collapse | | | Tapsa Local time: 09:47 Ingelesatik Finlandierara MemoQ warning in concordance | Jul 18, 2012 |

Sorry for my late reply. Thank you all for your feedback!
We've decided to hold off on the 6.0 upgrade. MemoQ released another build 6.0.14 and once again would like to know what your thoughts are.

Have any your previous complaints been taken care of?
