Always breakfast first | Jun 11, 2023 |
I eat a very light dinner (soup, salad or a yoghurt with fruit) or even skip dinner if I had a late afternoon tea, so when I get up, I do need a big breakfast and I love it. I lived in Belgium for 30 years and got accustomed to eat much earlier than my fellow countrymen and women.

I can even grab something small (a cookie) and a coffee as my first breakfast. Then add a brunch to it a little later.

Cup of coffee in bed, then sweeping the floor, then yoga, then breakfast which I eat as the laptop is firing up.

I don't function before I have a cup of strong tea. I don't like eating early morning but I must have my cuppa, two if it's cold or I need comfort. and I do not let it go cold either.

Work or no work, breakfast comes first. Until then the day hasn't even started yet.

I have one coffee, without sugar or milk, for breakfast. I drink it after coming back from my walk with the dog, usually while having a quick scroll through emails to see if there's anything from clients that requires a quick response. That aside, I don't break my fast until midday. For me this works well and I've been doing it for considerably more than a decade. That aside, I don't break my fast until midday. For me this works well and I've been doing it for considerably more than a decade. If I eat breakfast I get hungry again mid-morning and start wanting a snack. If I don't eat breakfast at all then I'm comfortable until early afternoon (and I exercise in a fasted state as well). There's a good deal of research to suggest that children who do not eat breakfast have poorer life outcomes in a variety of ways. I know of no research that has come to the same conclusion for adults, but from my own experience I know that some people absolutely can't get going without breakfast. I'm a big believer in individuals finding out what works for them. Eat, don't eat, you choose. Incidentally, I read somewhere that before agricultural machinery became common, farmers and farmhands (probably on dairy farms) in the UK would typically do a couple of hours of work very early, before returning to the farmhouse for a proper breakfast. For them, work seems to have come first... Dan ▲ Collapse

I eat a complete breakfast two hours after waking up and then begin my work. I skip lunch and only have breakfast and dinner. The first two hours start with a cup of Turkish coffee and a cigarette. I check my emails and WhatsApp for news shared by friends. Afterward, I take a shower, have some tea, and smoke more cigarettes. Then breakfast and work.

Lingua 5B wrote: When do you eat dinner, what's your fasting window? We're usually finished with dinner well before 8pm, since as a family we tend to eat around 7pm, so it turns out that the window is typically 16 hours. So I'm basically on two meals a day and a 16:8 system. Think it was leangains.com that first gave me the idea back in 2009-2010. I've never tried a 5:2 fast, or longer fasts than 16 hours. I suspect 23 hours (essentially one meal a day) would be possible. But not eating breakfast has never been hard for me personally. Dan
