Hi all, I bought myself a Portable PC for Xmas that had a pre-installed version of Norton Anti-Virus with a six month licence. It advises not to install while Norton is there. However, when I went to "Remove Programmes" in Control Panel. Norton does not appear in the list. I suspect it was removed from the list at the beginning to encourage me to purchase the Norton extension. So, anyone know how to remove software that does not appear in the remove programmes folder? Thanks in advance, Berni PS I am using Windows XP

to remove completely. Some of its files get embedded in the registry and have to be hunted down and removed manually. At least that's my experience with Norton. I've now been using NOD32 for years and I'm very happy with it. Sorry I can't be of more help. | | |
All I can say is that I agree entirely - I had loads of problems with Norton, and it can also only be used on one computer, which is a pain when you've got a laptop and a PC or if you change your computer; we had to change our new computer because it was faulty but had already installed Norton - there was no way of reinstalling it, their Support was hopeless, and incredibly expensive, and I would have had to buy another package. Needless to say, I didn't! Experts recommended BitDefender and I have used it for years now and it's great!! Cheaper too! Unfortunately, I don't remember how we removed all of the trial Norton files from my laptop. Is there not an uninstall option within the Norton program - I don't suppose they'd be so helpful as to mention it in their Help files either. Maybe a 'Search' from the Start menu performed in the system for anything containing the word Norton will reveal a lot of the files, and hopefully all? Once you've removed all you think you can remove, you can always give BitDefender a go, it might work anyway. Otherwise, their Technical Support has always been very good - if there's nothing in their FAQ, try sending them a mail. I expect they have to deal with this problem quite often. Hope this helps?
