JPG file just doesn't contain any words, it's picture. You have to use some Optical Character Recognition program (e.g., FineReader) to convert it to word file containing real words.

...you cannot count words in a jpg file, it's picture. You can make your Invoice basing on wordcount in a target file you have translated.

Is there a trial version of the program?

I didn't succeed in doing it.
But what I would like to know is how I can count with Fine Reader.
First read file, then save in word and then count: is that the way it works?

Print and count Sep 6, 2007

Hi

That 's what I do for small files&projects before I quote.

Because you spend less time this way.
Otherwise you have to find an OCR program.
Install that,
do a restart before you start to use
Run that program
If you could manage have that program read your JPG file.

Have a word file and than check the word count.

Instead I would print that page and simply count it. It will take only a minute or two.

Why do you have to take care of the word count in the first place? This is the job of the agency and if it's a direct client, the better, because they have the original files.

I always check the word count provided by the agency and, guess what, more often than not I find more words than any software might detect. The POs always get adjusted without complaint.

I don't use any software for word count. Most of them turn out to be faulty. Why would you spend money on such a thing or mess up your computer w/ freeware or shareware?

Charging by target word is the ideal solution.

Reason why?

If you are dealing with images / pictures / graphics, your word count is restricted anyway and nobody gets hurt except you if you put in extra hours to convert files, download possibly malicious software, or even spend money on more reliable software.

Big question mark.

Why do you have to do this? I hope you are being paid by the hour for this effort.

You're right but I can't charge by target word and they charge per line so it's a bit different for me in this case...
Do you think I should ask them to charge by target word now, after a month?
