Realmente no he tenido clientes de fuera de la UE por ahora, pero según lo que he visto en foros, etc. tengo entendido que, por ejemplo, para los clientes (particulares, no empresas) de EEUU se suele pedir el "Social Security Number", que cumpliría la función de un DNI-NIF español.

¿De dónde exactamente es tu cliente? (país) Lo pregunto porque cada país identifica a sus contribuyentes de otra manera. Quizás saber de qué país se trata nos ayude a ayudarte

Desde hace 15 años facturo a empresas estadounidenses sin necesidad de indicar ningún tipo de número o código de identificación fiscal de dichas empresas. Entiendo que tampoco será necesario en tu caso. Quizá quieras preguntar en tu delegación local de Hacienda.
