My chair is an old diningroom chair that I've attached wheels to the four legs. It has a soft seat but a hard back, and no annoying arm rests or five legs sticking out at all angles. Extremely comfortable. Plus the wheels raise the chair just that extra bit off the ground so I can sit with my feet planted flat on the floor. I sometimes try a variety of office chairs when I see them at various stores, but I've never encountered a chair even remotely similar in comfort.

As for the original question, while I suspect I can go on for over 8 hours, what gets me is not physical discomfort but boredom: I rarely sit for longer than 1-2 hours before I get up and get some coffee or to fold the laundry or do the dishes.
