Proofreading in an earlier job made reading almost impossible!

Way back, when patents and newspapers were still printed on linotypes, I worked for a couple of years at a printer´s as a proofreader, or strictly a proofreader´s assistant, called a copyholder.

At the end of the day, I simply could not read a newspaper or anything else without checking the headings and noting whether all the commas were correct, marking ´bad breaks´, and looking out for ´widows and orp

At the end of the day, I simply could not read a newspaper or anything else without checking the headings and noting whether all the commas were correct, marking ´bad breaks´, and looking out for ´widows and orphans´. And then I could not remember what the text actually about!

Luckily, when I moved on to train as a librarian, I could soon read normally again.
